Personal Independence Payment PIP

Who can Apply?

You can apply for PIP or the person you care for can if:

  • They are aged 16 to 64 and
  • Their health condition is long term or they have a disability that affects their ability to live independently. Long term means lasting 12 months or longer.

How much is Personal Independence Payment PIP?

PIP is made up of two sections the first being a Daily living component, and a mobility component. Both have a lower and high rate. What a person is entitled to depends on how their condition affects their daily life.

How to apply for PIP Personal Independence Payment.

Applicants will have to complete a form saying how their disability affects them.

Remember: DWP are there to help you, If you are entitled it is important that you claim PIP and this will allow anyone who may care for you to claim Carers Allowance.

If you receive PIP you may also be entitled to apply for

  • Blue Badge
  • Mobability Scheme
  • Free or discounted vehicle Tax
  • Disabled person’s railcard

NOTE: Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for adults has been replaced by Personal Independence Payment (PIP) In all of The UK Children under 16 can still apply for DLA.

Attendance Allowance AA

It is important to apply for Attendance Allowance (AA) if you qualify as it will assist you to claim other benefits. So if you are over 65 and have care needs.

Who Can Apply for Attendance Allowance?

AA can be applied for if you:

  • Don’t get Disability Allowance DLA or Personal Independence Payment PIP
  • Are 65 or over
  • You don’t live permanently in hospital or in accommodation provided by or funded by a local council.

Remember: Attendance Allowance is not counted as income when working out other benefits. In fact, it may increase the amount of other benefits you get also saving and income are not taken into account when applying for Attendance Allowance.You can spend your Attendance Allowance how you choose. You do not need to spend it meeting your care needs.

How much is Attendance Allowance?

AA is paid at two different rates a Lower rate and a higher rate.The amount is assessed if a person needs frequent care throughout the day or night or if they are terminally ill.

Remember: If you need help with daily tasks such as washing, getting dressed and going to the toilet or require help attending social activities then you have care needs and help is available so apply.

Carers Allowance

You may be eligible for cares allowance if you spend at least 35 hours a week caring providing the person you care for gets:

  • Attendance Allowance (AA)
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

The carers allowance is at present paid directly to the carer, but can be affected by other benefits.
